Headquartered in Irvine, California, Kawasaki Motor Corp., U.S.A. (KMC) opened its doors in 1966 focused on supplying the best
recreational products to the U.S. marketplace. The Kawasaki product line is comprised of many unique consumer products such as motorcycles, JET SKI® watercraft,
ATV's, utility vehicles, and portable generators.
Today KMC regional offices span from Fort Worth, Texas and Atlanta Georgia, to Grand Rapids, Michigan and Piscalaway, New Jersey. With
revenues topping $1 billion dollars annually, 1,500 dealers and 480 employees, it was time for KMC to carry their dream into the next
millennium. Their vision included finishing Y2K readiness with a new Time & Attendance solution to wireless data collection in the distribution
centers for labor performance and cost tracking. In addition, the buykawasaki.com e-commerce site launch strategy was pointing to the
need for warehouse management solutions not available with existing in-house systems.
To make its vision a reality, KMC turned to Intermec Technologies, a leading manufacturer of data collection hardware to recommend
potential solution providers. "Circa was selected" according to Mike Donaldson, Senior Systems Analyst for Kawasaki, "because they offered
immediate and long term solutions that addressed our Phase I Time & Attendance and Job Labor collection requirements as well as a Phase II
for Warehouse Management solutions in support of our upcoming e-commerce venture."
While full deployment of the Time & Attendance system is not yet complete, Jim Klein, Director of Human Resources for KMC has found
that "The Circa solution is already generating labor savings for both Payroll and Human Resources and, when the system is fully
implemented, essentially all hourly employees and their supervisors will enjoy increased efficiencies and accuracy." In the distribution center,
Circa's Pack Verify solution meets several operational objectives. Ed Hauschild, Distribution Center Manager explains, "The system verifies the
contents of every box to ensure the customer receives exactly what was ordered. In addition, we are now able to include an accurate
invoice/packing list in each box sent to the customer. Circa's Pack Verify solution increases shipping accuracy, and improves customer service by
providing more available information about each shipment. The accountability and performance measurement the system provides allows us to better manage the packing function."
